Monsters on the Beach

Hello everyone! Sorry I haven't been to active on here with the blog site and keeping things updating. Been a really busy year, and haven't had much time to pick up the camera. Finally have some time on my hands now and look to getting this site running even better!

Now to get to what this blog post is about, and the title says it all, Monsters on the Beach!   Monsters on the Beach is a event that happens every year at Wildwood, New Jersey. Eight to nine of the best monster trucks in the world come out to the big beach to compete for the overall points championship during that weekend. I have been coming to this show since the mid 2000's and the show does a great job keeping the history of this event, while keeping it fresh for the new generation.

This year I made the trip down on Saturday to watch the first of three events that weekend. Waking up at the crack ass of dawn is never fun, but I have been going through withdrawal of Monster Trucks this year, so I had to make the trip down.

I get into Wildwood at 8 A.M, park my car in the closes car lot to the show area and go up to the board walk to check out what is going on. Mornings are my favorite times at Wildwood since it is so quiet and peaceful and makes it nice to just walk the board walk and check out the sites!  Since the show didn't start till 1 P.M I was there just a little bit early. I decided Id go walk around for a little bit and stop in one arcade I always go to when down there. My luck in the arcade soon ran out quick and right at that time I got a call from my friend who was helping to run the event, Mark

"Hey, where are you? I'm in front of the the monster truck show area testing out my RC Car" He said "Come hang out"

I headed down to where he was and watched as he played with his new toy wiping it around in the sand. I haven't been in the RC car scene in a while and seeing how big this Traxxas Xmaxx was in person compared to pictures, along with how easy it is to use really showed me how much the hobby has changed.

After playing around with the Xmaxx for a little we found some shade and hung out till it was time for the show to start. As they open the gates and people started to head in to the pit party I made my way to my favorite spot to photograph and chilled there till the show started.

The line up for this years event were Avenger, Wrecking Crew, Equalizer, Red Solo Truck, Crushstation, Lumberjack, Snake Bite, and Bigfoot.  By the end of it, Corey Rummel in Avenger took the racing win and Darren Schnell in Bigfoot took the freestyle win. One highlight from the event was Greg in Crushstation having a great tail dragging wheelie, and bringing it down in perfect timing to bounce it into another jump and make for an awesome picture moment.

I will put the link to the pictures below so you can check out all of the action instead of me writing about it. For anybody local or in the area this is one event you have to make. Its always been a great event and with the big open beach it allows the trucks to really let it hang out. Until the next blog I hope you all have a great day!
